However, before you get started here is a little bit of information on the sport and some insight on the distances involved.
The Basics of Triathlon
Triathlon is a multisport event made up of swimming, cycling and running. There are numerous different race distances including:
"Tri" or "Super Sprint" Distance Triathlons
"Tri or Super Sprints races are 200m swim, 5km cycle and 2.5km run.
Sprint Distance Triathlons
Sprints races are 500m or 750m swim (respectively), 20km bike, 5km run.
Olympic Distance Triathlons
Olypmic Distance races are 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run.
Half Ironman Distance
Half Ironman distance races are 1.2 mile (1.9km) swim, 56 mile (90km) bike, 13.1 mile (21km) run.
Full Ironman Distance
Full Ironman distance races are- 2.4 mile (3.8km) swim, 112 mile (180km) bike followed by a 26.2 mile (42km) marathon.
Please note: Ironman is a brand not an official distance. Full distance races are sometimes know as Ironman distance.
